Well, we have certainly had an eventful November. Between all of us having a cold at some point, Sarah breaking her collar bone, me volunteering at preschool and Ryan keeping up with all of his work and studies and extra stuff!! Plus Sarah had her 5yr check up and got to have 5 shots! Boy did she not like that! Then on Saturday our boys decided to make themselves heard!
I had some spotting, so I called my OB's office and she wanted me to go to the hospital for her to check everything was okay. I am grateful that she was on duty over the weekend. They did all kinds of tests, and there was one that was concerning... so I was put on baby monitoring all of Saturday through to Sunday morning and monitoring for contractions. The boys moved and kicked the whole time with those monitors pressing down on my tummy. I didn't have any contractions or any more bleeding. But they checked me in to make sure that everything was okay, and I got to be on a liquid diet for the day... man was I starving! Plus I got to experience the pain in your butt (literally) of Steroid injections. you get 2 shots, one 24 hours after the other, and the purpose is to increase the development of the babies lungs just in case they decided to come early. Ryan says now they won't be able to take part in the Olympics... hehehe... On Sunday morning they took the monitors off, still monitoring things regularly, and I got that 2nd shot! Ryan and Sarah came and spent the afternoon with me. It was hard for Sarah to leave me at the hospital and go home with dad. She gave him a hard time!!! Ryan has been amazing through all of this.
Anywho... the long and the short of everything is that I had an ultrasound today (monday 1 Dec), and the boys are doing great! 2 pounds each and moving and sitting on each other... and the cervix is closed and everything was looking good. I didn't experience any more bleeding and no contractions, and they redid a test that then came back negative. We don't know what caused the bleeding. For now everything seems to be okay. I guess there is still a chance that they will come early. So my OB wants to monitor me and I am on bed rest for the next few weeks. This means that I need to pretty much stay home. I can get up and take a shower and get something to eat, but most of the time I need to be laying down, or sitting back with my feet up, taking the weight and pressure off my cervix. This also means I can't clean the house or do laundry or shopping. Ryan has to do all that along with all of the craziness that comes with the end of the semester. If all goes well til 28 weeks (2 weeks from Wednesday) then I might not have to stay on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy, so any prayers to the effect of getting off bed rest and keeping pregnant til Feb will be greatly appreciated.
We have so many amazing people around us who have offered and are already helping us! With meals and playdates for Sarah and support. Thank you all! Mom and day are now planning on coming over a little earlier, all going well with their visas etc...
Now I just have to restrain myself from getting up to do stuff that I see needs to be done. And we need to not feel bad about letting others help us. That's not easy. So although some of you may think that bed rest sounds fun... and you'd like a dose of it yourself... think again. I will appreciate your emails if you have the time... I may be spending a lot of time on the computer and reading, along with playing board games with Sarah and watching movies with her and reading with her. It is already hard to watch Ryan doing stuff, and wanting to help. He has reprimanded me few times already for being up to much and not getting that bed rest.
I need to go. I am tired and need to sleep. But I wanted to let everyone know what was up... I don't know whether to say worry or not, for now things seem to be okay... but it has certainly been a rollercoaster ride... we'll keep you informed... maybe I'll be doing more blogging in teh next few weeks:-)

I am glad the boys are okay, and I'm glad you are trying to follow the doctor's orders! Definitely stay put as much as you can and let others serve you! It will make them feel good and you need it. I'm so happy for you that you have a beautiful daughter and twins on the way. Take care!!

I live close. Let me know if you need anything. I'll come over and keep you guys company one of these days. Just let me know which one. I can make you lunch or something. Do you need me to go grocery shopping for you? I actually will be going to Woodman's today.

Hey Tish,
Just found your blog.
I really can sympathize with your experience. I had bleeding at 32 and 33 (and now 36 1/2) weeks and they did the cortisone shots to me too - felt like they were sticking a nail in there! I was put on bed rest for just 2 days (until my doctor said it wasn't worth it) but I know HOW HARD it is.
I'm sort of big, my schedule is erratic, and sometimes I feel horrid, but if ever you need something, don't hesitate to give me a call (or send an email)!! If I can help, I will!!

I have totally been there and done that and know what is is like to be in the hospital and on bed rest. Those steroid shots are not fun either, but if those babies come early like Bryson did, those shots could make all the difference. It sounds like they did a fetal-fibronectin test, and if it's negative, there's only about a one percent chance that your babies will be born within the next two weeks. That's good news because the longer they stay in your tummy, the better. You and I are both people that like to be doing things, and bed rest was hard for me at the beginning, but then I realized that I needed to let people help me and not over-do it by actually bed resting because Bryson was more important. Bed rest isn't very pleasant (though I'm glad Sarah is there to keep you company and is old enough to understand it a little bit), but it is so worth it if your twins stay put for a few more weeks and are born healthy and strong. It will be tough to take care of Sarah and make sure Ryan gets everything done that he needs to, but like you said, you can only do so much and you need to make sure those babies stay in there for as long as possible. It's so great that your parents are coming and that you have so many supportive friends. If you need anyone to talk to, I can call you so you're not bored. Your family is in our prayers and we are praying that your boys will not be too premature, if at all. Good luck! Keep us updated.

Oh Tish! I am going to call you in the morning! I spent 16 weeks on bedrest with Abbie(and like 3 with Nate before he was born at 31 wks). Nate was only 2 when I was on bedrest with Abbie. Done the steroid shots multiple times, etc. Hang in there! Let's chat--I want to know how I can help and I have lots of ideas of how to stay sane on bedrest.

I completely understand what you are going through. Bed rest is harder than just about anything... especially with a little one around. So glad that everything is alright with the babies. Paul had to do all the laundry and cleaning and cooking for the last few months of my pregnancy as well and it was so difficult to watch that. One thing for sure is that you are doing great and doing what is best for the babies. If you would like to talk, give me a call anytime. I am usually home nursing the babes. I'm glad you are getting help... you will need it after they are born as well- don't feel bad about it- EVERY MULTIPLE MOM NEEDS HELP and a lot of it.
